More than 400 years ago, the Beemster was still a large lake, which was drained in 1612 by 43 polder mills, adding more than 7.200 hectares of land to the Netherlands. The Beemster has been on the World Heritage List since 1999. The municipality of Beemster has been dissolved and merged with the municipality of Purmerend since January 1, 2022. Within the Beemster you will not only find the Noordbeemster but also the villages of Middenbeemster, Westbeemster and Zuidoostbeemster. Noordbeemster is the smallest of the four villages and is located between Middenbeemster and Avenhorn.
The transfer point for the Connexxion buses is located in Noordbeemster, from here you can transfer to the bus to Hoorn, Alkmaar and Purmerend. Next to this bus stop you will find a cozy regional restaurant, where you can sit outside and enjoy the natural beauty of the Beemster.
The Beemster is also an ideal place for cycling. Various cycling routes have been mapped out to enjoy North Holland nature. These routes take you past various farm shops where they sell, among other things, the well-known Beemster cheese. On the farms you can see with your own eyes how much dedication and commitment these farmers put into caring for their livestock.
Living in the Noordbeemster guarantees peace, freedom and space. A perfect place for those who want to live in the countryside or want to set up a business.
Due to its central location, Noordbeemster is very easy to reach. For example, the A7 to Hoorn towards Leeuwarden and Zaandam/Amsterdam can be quickly reached and Purmerend with a railway station is also a short distance away. A bus line runs through the Beemster to and from Alkmaar and Purmerend with transfer options to Hoorn.
