Partial monumental description:
Monastery with chapel in a neo-Gothic style from 1889 with an extension in the same style from 1925, designed by the Amersfoort architectural firm H. Kroes en Zn. The sister house was built on behalf of the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Stichting in Amersfoort as an extension of an existing monastery that was located in the adjacent 18th-century former house at Oudegracht 218. The rear facade of this former house was raised by one floor during the renovation in 1925. and the floors have new windows. The sister house is part of the closed facade wall along the north side of the Oudegracht in the center of Alkmaar.

The monastery with chapel from 1889/1925 is of general interest because of its architectural and cultural-historical value as a representative example of an urban monastery building in a neo-Gothic style, characteristic of the oeuvre of the architect H. Kroes and Zn. The building also has situational value because of its iconic location in the facade of the Oudegracht in the city center of Alkmaar.

The layout is as follows;

Ground
You enter through the hall to the left of the chapel, which is shared with the adjacent apartments. The meter cupboard is also located here and this hall immediately serves as a back entrance to the backyard and storage room. The front door of the chapel is located in the middle of the building and here you enter a central hall with a spacious cloakroom. Turning left we go towards the spacious kitchen/diner at the front with a simple layout, various cupboards and the connection for the washing machine. From the hall you enter the separate toilet and the bathroom with bath, sink and shower. The living room is located at the rear in what used to be the dining room. Here there is a spiral staircase to the first floor, a spacious storage room, a fireplace and patio doors to the backyard.

First floor
The spiral staircase in the living room takes you to the floor where the chapel used to be. The chapel has been divided into different rooms and floors by the current owner. The part with the altar is still completely intact and here the stained glass windows, the brick vaults and the enormous height are still clearly visible.

Second floor
A fixed staircase takes you to the old balcony at the front of the building where the organ used to be. From the balcony you have access to a very large bedroom/studio.

Third floor
A staircase from the balcony takes you to the third floor, where there is also a very large bedroom/studio.
