The European School in Alkmaar

The European School in Alkmaar

A unique top location

Alkmaar will be the new location for the European School. This makes a great contribution to the further development of the city and region of Alkmaar. The planned location of the European School is the vacant site on the corner of the Zeswielen, between the Hertog Aalbrechtweg and the Hoornse Vaart at Alkmaar Noord station. The school will be located in a unique location in the middle of the rural beauty of the Oudorperhout with the mills and the dynamically developing Alkmaar Noord station area. Due to the enthusiastic stakeholders, including parents of students of the European School, this location emerged as the most suitable location.

What is the European School?

The European School offers a special form of international education for students aged 4 to 18. The European School teaches children of the staff of European Union institutions, but not only that; also to students of foreign employees at companies in the region and Dutch children who attend European education. This is organized in three levels: kindergarten (two grades), primary school (five grades) and secondary school (seven grades). The prestigious European Baccalaureate (EB) diploma gives students access to colleges and universities in all countries of the European Union after completing secondary school.

With attention to the students

The students take lessons in the European working languages; English, French and German, but also in their own mother tongue. These lessons are taught by native language teachers. A lot of attention is paid to sports and cultural education. One of the objectives of the European School is to strengthen creativity in art and European culture.
The land ready for construction will be delivered at the end of 2022 so that construction can start in 2023. The building will be developed together with the European School.
