The first month of 2022 is almost over and that's why we thought it would be a good idea to look back on last year. It is not easy to find a home to buy, but people still scour the internet en masse. In this blog we give you a glimpse into the search trends of people on the internet. Because what were the most popular searches? And what type of home is most sought after?
The website visitors
Although the supply of homes continued to decline sharply in 2021, visitors did search en masse for a home online, such as Funda. And that was fantastic news for ECHT Makelaars & Taxateurs, because the more visitors the more online reach for us! All real estate agents in the Netherlands together received a total of 10,3 million contact requests, compared to 9 million a year earlier. A significant increase and you knew where to find us. Yet consumer purchasing intentions have dropped, research shows. Confidence is expected to slowly return in 2022.
A house in the big city
Just like the most popular pubic names of the year, Funda has listed the most popular searches. Amsterdam was the most sought after city for a home, followed by The Hague and Rotterdam. What is striking about the top 10 is that most searches are for the larger cities in the Netherlands.

Do you know which provinces are more searched for? The province of Zeeland, Drenthe, Groningen, Gelderland, Friesland, North Holland and Noordwijk. The fact that so much has been searched for or looked at for homes in Noordwijk is most likely due to the media attention for the now sold villa of the Meiland family. Now that's a gem!
The search filters
What do you think? Are more people looking for a house or apartment? Research shows that 69% of people are looking for a house and the rest are looking for an apartment. In addition, it is interesting to see that almost 40% of searchers are looking for a home with more than 3 rooms and that three-quarters of people are looking for a garden.
Good market conditions for sellers
The market is currently very scarce for buyers, there are few homes for sale. Sellers, on the other hand, can often sell their home for a nice amount during this time. It is striking to see that sales confidence among Funda searchers has dropped by 15% compared to a year earlier. Not surprising in this tense market!
