Southeast Beemster

The Zuidoostbeemster itself

More than 400 years ago, the Beemster was still a large lake, which was drained in 1612 by 43 polder mills, adding more than 7.200 hectares of land to the Netherlands. The Beemster has been on the World Heritage List since 1999. The municipality of Beemster has been dissolved and merged with the municipality of Purmerend since January 1, 2022. Within the Beemster you will not only find the Zuidoostbeemster but also the villages of Middenbeemster, Noordbeemster and Westbeemster. The Zuidoostbeemster is located next to Purmerend and is separated by a canal. The Zuidoostbeemster was always seen as a suburb or polder district of the city of Purmerend. Retired livestock farmers were attached to the Purmerend cattle market and therefore wanted to continue living as close to the city as possible.

Facilities in the Zuidoostbeemster

Fort Resort Beemster is a well-known, stylish wellness resort. This resort is located in Zuidoostbeemster at Nekkerweg 24. Thanks to innovative applications, the Fort is also a sustainable place, as the baths are heated by the residual heat of the saunas. Even the rainwater is reused.
The Beemster is also an ideal place for cycling. Various cycling routes have been mapped out to enjoy North Holland nature. These routes take you past various farm shops where they sell, among other things, the well-known Beemster cheese. On the farms you can see with your own eyes how much dedication and commitment these farmers put into caring for their livestock.
The city of Purmerend is a 5-minute bike ride away. Here you will find the Eggert Shopping Center, many sports facilities, supermarkets, the Dijklander hospital and a railway station.
