De Goorn himself
De Goorn is a village in the municipality of Koggenland and is less than a 10-minute drive from Hoorn. De Goorn really has all the conveniences you can imagine. For example, there is a shopping center called De Vijverhof on the border of De Goorn/Avenhorn. Here you will find various shops such as an Albert Heijn and a Lidl, a bakery and a butcher, various drugstores, hairdressers, clothing shops, a jeweler and an optician.
What is there to do in De Goorn?
There is no shortage of catering establishments in De Goorn. Something for every target group; really eating out? Get a drink and a snack in a brown café or go to the local youth pub, it's all there. You will also find a good sushi place and various cafeterias in De Goorn. De Goorn also has a lot to offer for the sports enthusiasts among us. De Goorn/Avenhorn has two football clubs, tennis clubs, a music school and a large gym where, in addition to fitness, you can also take various lessons in kickboxing, yoga, dancing, etc. You will even find a swimming pool here where you can swim freely or take swimming lessons.
De Goorn is also the right place for parties and fun. For example, the fair is celebrated annually by young and old and many people participate in the Catering Relay; a fun party in which you go to several village pubs in groups to play games and have a drink.
Types of neighborhoods
If we go really far back in time, De Goorn only existed on the village street called De Goorn that led to the West in Avenhorn. De Goorn has now come apart at the seams. From the 60s onwards, more and more neighborhoods were built around the village street. De Goorn now has several beautiful new residential areas. More and more buildings are being built because De Goorn is a popular village. You will be on the A7 towards Amsterdam and Purmerend or to Den Helder in no time. Hoorn and Alkmaar are also just around the corner.
Children and education
Since the end of 2021, there has been a brand new IKC in Avenhorn/De Goorn, adjacent to the village forest. All primary schools in the village are combined in this children's center. In this children's center you will also find a childcare center and an after-school care facility that can use all the facilities that this school offers, such as the large gymnasium, the beautiful outdoor area and the learning area. There are many playgrounds throughout De Goorn and Avenhorn and there is even a natural playground, good for hours of fun! All these facilities make De Goorn a very child-friendly village.
Nature
In De Goorn you will find the village forest. A nice park where you can take a lovely walk with your four-legged friend. Would you like to make a slightly larger circle? Then you can cycle to the Ursemmerplas in 10 minutes. This is a recreational area with a large lake that you can walk around. The lake is surrounded by playing and sunbathing areas where you can optimally enjoy the sun in summer.
